I love the flexibility that flash gives me. It was incredibly windy in Birmingham last weekend and so I had Glen hanging onto the Elinchrom ELC HS light for grim death. We’d fitted it with a deep Octa to provide soft light just off camera. I shot in HS mode so that I could preserve a shallow depth of field at f2.8 and use a fast shutter speed to bring down the sky and put plenty of mood in there whilst popping Carwen out of the background.
I positioned her so that she was framed by the sky and street furniture. A few distractions, lamposts, signs have been taken out in Photoshop. Content Aware tools are a fantastic addition to the retouching armoury.
We’ll be exploring these ideas on the Street Shooting Workshop later this year. Come and join us.
